FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CALIFORNIA, October 2026 — An independent Arab-American developer has launched Canopy Astrology, a mobile app dedicated to the traditional astrological practices of the medieval Arabic-speaking world. Officially released in late July 2026, Canopy is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play, with availability on iPhone Duo also included in its expanding platform reach.
Developed over a significant period by a California-based programmer with two decades of software development experience, Canopy grew out of a personal desire to create an astrology app grounded explicitly in the Arabian tradition. The project began with a simple frustration: the developer wanted a modern astrology app that took the Arabian tradition seriously, rather than treating it as a footnote to Western astrology. After a significant period of development, they built the resource they had been looking for, incorporating Arabic terminology, transliterations, and translations to help users explore the tradition in its historical context.
The result is an app that draws on historical works by influential writers of the Islamic Golden Age, including al-Bīrūnī, Abū Maʿshar, Māshāʾallāh, Sahl ibn Bishr, and al-Ṣūfī. By bringing these sources into a modern mobile experience, Canopy offers users an opportunity to explore traditional astrological techniques through detailed explanations informed by historical literature.
Among its distinctive features are an extensive guide to the 28 lunar mansions, planetary hours, Arabic lots, fixed-star interpretations, and electional astrology—the practice of selecting astrologically favorable times for particular undertakings. The app also explores talismanic timing and other specialized techniques rarely addressed in mainstream astrology applications. Arabic terminology, transliterations, and translations help users understand these concepts within their original cultural and linguistic contexts.
For the developer, the project is also an effort to make an important part of Arab intellectual heritage more visible. The medieval Islamic world played a significant role in preserving, translating, developing, and transmitting astronomical and astrological knowledge across cultures. Canopy explores this history while highlighting techniques and ideas that influenced later astrological traditions in Europe.
Canopy is designed for a broad audience, from experienced practitioners of traditional astrology to curious newcomers interested in learning about ʿilm aḥkām al-nujūm—the science of the judgments of the stars. Detailed guides explain the underlying concepts, while practical tools and personalized readings help users explore the tradition for themselves. The emphasis is on thorough explanations and historical sources rather than simplified summaries.
The developer has also shared extensive educational material about the historical sources behind the app through online articles and social media, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Pinterest, where posts have attracted substantial attention. That educational approach continues inside Canopy, giving users an affordable way to explore a wide range of traditional astrological topics.
Canopy Astrology is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play, with subscriptions of $11.99 per month or $69.99 per year. The app's expanding availability includes iPhone Duo.
